Jerusalem: Aynot, 5724 [1963]

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION. Presentation copy inscribed and signed by David Ben-Gurion: “To Michael Levy on the occasion of your Bar Mitzvah, with blessings from Paula and David Ben-Gurion.”

Netzach Israel (Eternal Israel) presents Ben-Gurion’s views on the history of the Jewish people, the principles on which the modern state of Israel was founded, and how the nation should continue to develop and sustain itself and its people.

The book, published soon after Ben-Gurion’s final retirement as prime minister, grew out of his writings during the fifteen years of Israeli statehood including the substantial introductions he wrote for the annual Israeli government yearbooks.

“The Jewish State in our time is perhaps the only state in the world of which it can be said: In the beginning was the vision … The destruction of European Jewry, the rise of American Jewry, and the rebirth of the Jewish State – these are the great transformations that in our generation have changed the face of the Jewish people, its destiny, its status, and its future” (David Ben-Gurion, Netzach Israel).

Provenance: with the stamp of the recipient, Michael Levy, Hertzliyah pituach.
